Upcoming 2017 Charter Fishing Season in Sitka

As the 2017 Sitka, Alaska charter fishing season approaches, excitement has set in with the crew. The boats made their way into the water at the end of April. Rods, reels, gear, & tackle followed a couple of days later. The finishing touches will be added to the boats by next week and we will be more than ready to take on our first guests of the summer.

Best Fishing Boats

We operate two 6-pack charter fishing boats. The Maverick is a customized 32 foot aluminum walk-around sport fisher, built here in Sitka, Alaska. Captain Tyler recently got new hand rales welded on this past month. Read more about Captain Tyler's Sitka, Alaska charter fishing boat.

The Cavalier is a 30 foot ALMAR that was recently customized in the spring of 2016. Both boats were recently re-powered with new twin 250hp Mercury Verado outboards in 2016.

Fishing: What to Expect for 2017

The 2017 pre-season King salmon abundance index came in lower than previous years. However, this index typically does not correlate too highly with the King salmon fishing and is used mainly for the daily and annual limits. We expect a strong run of King salmon this year in Sitka.

Halibut regulations came out in early February. We saw good-excellent halibut fishing in 2016 and expect the same this summer. If the boats are able to get out near Cape Edgecumbe and soak for a few hours, the daily limit is almost a guarantee.

After two average years of Silver (Coho) salmon fishing, rumor has it that we shall see an excellent run of Silvers in 2017.
