Sitka, Alaska Fishing Report Late April '19

Updated: Mar 3, 2020

We have been out on the ocean three times already this April and twice in the last week. Two King salmon were caught out at Cape Edgecumbe for about an hour and half of fishing time this past Saturday (4/27/19) on a fun fish. Two more King salmon were caught this past Monday (4/29/19) on our first day charter of the 2019 season by Tyler on the Maverick. Same location and time spent fishing for salmon. Limits of halibut and rockfish were also caught on the day charter. Local fishing reports are telling us King salmon are also being caught at the Vitskari rocks, one of the popular spots close to town.

It's still very early season for the salmon, but any signs of wild King salmon are encouraging - especially seeing a couple caught on separate days.

Also, the new Shimano salmon reels (the new & improved Tekota A series) worked out great. Creates a whole new definition of "smooth".
